Introduction
An 800-room student accommodation scheme for London’s very own City University, the AGF team were happy to help provide the project with a range of high performance of Schuco aluminium solutions in the form of FW50+ curtain walling and ADS65 heavy duty doors. Working with London-based contractor and consultancy Mace Living we were confident we could provide the doors and walling on time and to a high standard.
Ambition
Situated in Westminster, the hope with this student flats project was to provide young people studying in the city with a modern form of accommodation that would span a 1.5 acre site on Goswell Road. Mace living had previous experience working on such major London projects like the London Eye and certain 2012 Olympic sites, so we knew that our quickly turned around products would be in safe hands.
Timescale
With a building contract thought to be worth somewhere around £35 million, the student accommodation investment was most ambitious commercial project for client the Carlyle Group at the time. Known as Pure City, it was the latest in a long line of projects under the client’s ‘Pure Living’ student brand and was to be completed quite quickly in comparison to other builds AGF have had the pleasure of being a part of.
Installation
Mace Living installed our FW50+ curtain walling and ADS65 heavy duty doors with relative ease, with all being supplied to make use of the slimmest sight lines possible. This would not only provide the students residing in City University’s halls with astounding views of the London cityscape, but ensured that the scheme would remain in perfect keeping with the Carlyle Group’s ambition to deliver contemporary accommodation.
Outcome
Following the planning, design, and installation of the student accommodation scheme, City University’s Pure City now stands as two arranged blocks of 429 single studio units, 136 twin apartments, and 240 ensuite study bedrooms. a new 34,000 sq ft sports hall and 20,000 sq ft of teaching accommodation was also incorporated, truly letting the project live up to the titles of ‘City’.
